Edmond sits at the northern edge of the Oklahoma City metro. It is close enough that many residents commute into Oklahoma City, and separate enough that it keeps its own downtown, its own school district, and its own city utilities.

The University of Central Oklahoma anchors the older part of town, which gives Edmond a year-round calendar of events that most suburbs of its size do not have. Newer construction has pushed north and west over the past decade.
